Single Review: Frisky Monkey - Goodbye to Me

Atlanta Synth-pop duo Frisky Monkey is back with a brand new single, "Goodbye to Me", and I expected to go into this the same way I do every Frisky Monkey track, an enjoyable, mostly light synth-pop experience, but this new track threw me a curve-ball, in the best possible way. Right out the gate I was lulled into this airy synth pad, which made me think this was going to be Frisky Monkey's standard fare, until, this aggressive synth arp comes in, and suddenly the track sounds like a track from classic DOOM. At this point I'm like "woah, this is completely different", and then the vocals come in. As always, Juan's vocal performance is impeccable, but this time the content is different. This track is angry. This is a track about fighting back, extremely confrontational, no holds barred. The instrumentation reflects this, aggressive, fast paced, but still a really groovy synth-pop sound. It's like synth-pop and Darksynth smashed together. There's this KILLER riff during the 3rd verse that has this double-bass drum line and it's just SO GOOD. This is one of the best tracks I've seen come out of Frisky Monkey, and it makes me so excited to see what they come up with next. Absolutely do not skip this one, it's something really really amazing.

Check it out here and consider purchasing it on Bandcamp.
